Jason Shuttlesworth

Biologist

Jason received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from WVU in 1995 where his specialty was microbiology. He got his start working as a lab technician in the WVU Entomology Department and later, as a lab technician for the USGS in Hawaii. During his career at REI Consultants, Jason has been involved with benthic and fisheries surveys, benthic taxonomy, and freshwater mussel surveys. Jason is certified in Eastern U.S. EPT, General Arthropods, and Chironomidae taxa to Genus Level through the Society for Freshwater Science. He has taken numerous benthic and mussel taxonomy courses, and is certified for Maryland Biological Stream Survey (MBSS) Benthic Macroinvertebrate Processing. He is also a member of the Society for Freshwater Science (formerly NABS.) Jason’s hobbies include long-distance running, reading, travel, and visiting small out-of-the-way restaurants in WV. Jason is married to Angela Shuttlesworth and is proud of his (straight-A student) step-son Tanner Ponceroff.
